Concussion Management

Chiropractor NW Calgary Sports Therapy

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury, that can cause significant symptoms and ongoing brain impairment. Concussions can result from a force to the head, most commonly during a contact sport incident, a fall or car accident.

Signs and symptoms of concussion can show up immediately after the injury or may not appear for days or even weeks after the injury. It is important to have proper assessment and care following any trauma to your head.

Our chiropractors, Dr. Kangarloo and Dr. Kara, have been trained and certified with the R2PTM Concussion Management program. This program applies the latest scientific research in concussion assessment and therapy.

The R2P protocol entails a thorough examination, which tests all aspects of concussion syndrome. The examination will evaluate your specific symptoms. Common symptoms persisting from a concussion are: neck pain/stiffness, headache, dizziness, visual blurring, double vision as well as possible balance and concentration problems. Following the examination, a step-wise treatment plan with regular progressions based on the individual’s functional limitations will be prescribed. This treatment plan will incorporate a return to work/school protocol followed by a return to play/sport progression. Due to the complexity of post concussion syndrome your care may require referral to other health providers and our team at CCST will ensure you are referred for the appropriate care.
