Prenatal & Postpartum Pregnancy Care

All of our CCST practitioners (Massage, Physio & Chiro) are trained and experienced to work with our pregnant patients during both the prenatal and postpartum stages of pregnancy.  Each trimester of pregnancy presents unique bodily changes that can result in new pain patterns, especially to the hips, low back, shoulders and neck.  Common concerns encountered during pregnancy include:

  • upper & lower back pain
  • pelvic pain
  • fatigue
  • numbness & tingling
  • headaches
  • muscular tightness
  • muscle strain
  • joint pain & swelling

REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY (RMT) for Pregnancy:

All of our CCST RMTs are trained and experience to provide excellent care for our pregnant patients.  However, we offer specialized prenatal and postpartum/postnatal massage with our RMT, Rihana MiddletonPrenatal massage caters to the aches and pains experienced during pregnancy.  Prenatal massage is a safe practice to reduce pain and increase relaxation.  A thorough interview at the beginning of the session helps the massage therapist understand the needs of the birthing person, followed by a discussion around techniques and positioning.  Safe massage positions include side lying, semi-reclined and seated, using many pillows to ensure maximum comfort. Prenatal massage techniques are administered to help decrease muscle tension, promote circulation and reduce stress.

Postnatal massage is a safe practice to help aid in recovery after giving birth. Similar to prenatal massage, postnatal massage includes a thorough interview and alternative positioning on the massage table to ensure a safe and comfortable treatment.  Benefits include musculoskeletal pain reduction and postural rebalancing, improved circulation and tissue health, and stress reduction.

PELVIC HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY for Prenatal prevention care and Postpartum recovery:

It is very common to experience pregnancy-related pelvic pain, especially in the later stages of pregnancy.  Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, with Bridget Pyke, can help prepare your pelvic floor and core for childbirth and potentially minimize and complications that may occur during childbirth.  Following a very detailed history and assessment, Bridget will create a treatment plan to help you prepare for childbirth, strengthen your core and pelvic floor for a better pregnancy experience and thus limit tissue damage during childbirth.

Postpartum recovery can help deal with childbirth-related complications such as when medical procedures like c-sections, episiotomy, forceps, etc are used.  Pelvic Health physiotherapy can also help greatly in recovering from non-complicated childbirth so that you can get back to normal function as soon as possible.  Please review our Services section under “Pelvic Health Physiotherapy” for more details.
